Can I travel with kids?

We welcome families with children of any age. We have flexible children rates to set prices for children who stay at your property. Please, contact us for the details and should you need special amenities.

What is your smoking policy?


The indoor and common outdoor areas, including the terrace and the patio, are smoke-free. There is a designated smoking area next to the patio.

What is check in and check out time?

Check-in is after 2:00 pm. Earlier check-in is possible upon the availability of the room. If the room is not yet available you can leave your luggage. Check-in before 7.00 am can be done if the room is booked for the preceding night.

Check-out is before 11:00 am. You can have a late check-out depending on availability. You can leave your luggage with us.

Do you provide breakfast?

We provide varying complimentary breakfasts including eggs, butter and jam, toasts, tropical fruits with coffee, tea and juice. Breakfast is served from 7:30 to 10:00 am on the patio. Please, let us know if you have any food allergies or special dietary requirements.

How to communicate with locals?

Most local people, particularly the youngsters speak English, and beach boys speak other languages. To greet people in their mother tongue, Swahili, you can say “Jumbo”. Locals say “Mambo” which is short for “How are things?” The answer is “Poa” meaning I’m well.
To thank you say “Asante” or “Asante sana” (thank you very much). You can also say “Shukran” – the Arabic word for thank you.

How to pay?

You can pay your accommodation and drinks in Jacob’s Inn by cash in USD, EURO or Tanzanian Shillings. We also accept credit cards (Visa, Master) but there is 3% bank charge on payments by credit card
Small restaurants in the village accept cash only, and big restaurants on the beach may accept also credit cards with 3% bank charge.
Bring enough cash in Tanzanian shillings. There is no bancomat (ATM) in Jambiani.

Do I need malaria prevention?

Local transmission of malaria in Zanzibar has been eliminated. You don’t need to take tablets for malaria prevention.

What to pack?

Bring your own beach towels. Beach shoes are necessary to walk in the lagoon. Avoid stepping on or touching sea urchins and jellyfish. Use strong UV protection always when you are outside, particularly on the beach and in the lagoon.
Bring your medicines. There is a small pharmacy in the village with most essential medicines.

How to get around?

It is very safe to walk in the village and on the beach during the day, but be careful at night because there are no street lights. You can rent bicycles and motorcycles to explore the surroundings.

How to dress?

When you walk in the village dress appropriately. In addition to respecting local culture by covering your shoulders and wearing a long skirt or pants, you will protect yourself from sunburn. Public display of affection is not tolerated.

Are there water shortages or power cuts?

There are occasional water shortages or power cuts in Jambiani. We have solar panels and water reservoirs to ensure continuity of service.

Do you have air conditioning?

We don’t have air conditioning. There are ceiling fans in the rooms and the lounge. Together with the sea breeze, this is enough for cooling.
